Aromatherapy – Change your environment with these 5 simple options

My mood is almost always lifted as soon as I smell something pleasant. It breaks my current thought pattern and I’m immediately transferred into the present moment. which is exactly why I wanted to spend a few moments today encouraging you to explore aromatherapy.

As someone who is greatly impacted by my environment, I find that even the subtle shift in scents can uplift my whole day. When I’m out hiking, I can smell the change of the seasons from spring to summer, summer to fall and when the first fat snowflake starts to drop from the sky.

I have associated some scents with memories. Whenever I catch a specific type of lemon cleaner, it takes me back to my college days when I was studying abroad in Italy, because the university used the exact same lemon scent.

Here are 5 ways to incorporate aromatherapy:

Light a candle: Not only do candles provide sensational aromatherapy, they also have a beautiful glow to them. The ambiance can be calming, settling and downright necessary on some of those most stressful days and dark winter mornings. One of my favorite candle lines from a big box retailer is the Bath and Body Works aromatherapy line. There’s a spearmint and mint scent that are my absolute favorite.

Moisturizer: Moisturizing is always a fun way to experience different scents while keeping your skin hydrated. While perfume lines almost always carry their scent in lotion form, I tend to lean towards a lightly scented lotion (such as Nivea… ) or a non-scented lotion (especially when flying on planes to ensure I’m not agitating someone who may be allergic to a scent).

Bubble bath: Great way to incorporate a calming scent such as lavender or mint as you unwind. While the scent might be light and subtle, it can fill the entire bathroom and cozy up the mood for the rest of the evening.

Bath Salts: I often use a combination of bubble bath and bath salts (is this allowed? Ha!). The salts make the water feel heavier, more calming and relaxing while also releasing scent. The bubble bath sits on top of the water. Both scents mixing into each other and creating a beautiful space.

Cooking & Baking: There’s nothing like coming home to a delicious smelling meal or the scent of homemade bread or cookies. Not only will cooking and baking provide for an empty stomach, the scents often tantalize the tastebuds and fill the kitchen with an incredible scent.

Those are just 5 aromatherapy examples to get you started. Shifting and changing your environment to help you strengthen your appreciation for the physical world around you and to have a desirable, safe space is the ultimate goal.

Let’s work on the small things that have an outsized return to help give you the most out of this beautiful life you’re designing.

Think about it,
